A quick question – has anyone seeking compensation for slavery actually been a slave? In any form or fashion, were they subjected to being held against their wishes, forced to do jobs they did not want to do, made to feel like a third class citizen, or a non-person? No they have never had any of the above inflicted upon them, so they have never been a slave, never will be and, therefore why would they be seeking compensation?
Perhaps their ancestors were held as slaves, but we’re talking about over 200 years ago. These “slaves” seeking compensation really should be studying the history of slavery and understand that in this country King George III signed the Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Actually its now 227 years ago, so get real, even if their ancesters were enslaved it has never affected them, nor will it.
To top it off, the government and the Church of England, Justin Welby (the most ungodlike creature) have decided that these “slaves” need compensation. Why? Perhaps the government feels they have to apologise for everything that happened over 200 years ago, why I don’t know, but that’s governments for you – bloody idiots the lot of them.
Justin Welby must be feeling a bit left out – but at the sametime he preaches and tells us what to do, the man doesn’t follow it through himself. He’s extremely well off, fine, but spread your own wealth about and not that of the church. There’s plenty of poor people in this country who could do with dipping into your coffers, not distant relatives of slavery. Just because he’s donned the cloth of the church does not make this man holy – he worked in the oil industry for years – good salary, good pension. Rising to the Archbishop of Canterbury in a very short time – questionable me thinks. Don’t trust him.
As for the would be “slaves” piss off and get real – this maybe Black October (mind you we don’t have a White September/march/april etc do we?) but you have no real claim to any compensation. Grow up.
