Working from home is not working. Straight up its an antisocial way of working and living. As humans we need contact, we do not thrive on isolation, as much as we think we do. Why do you think that mental health issues are going through the roof? Apart from the use of “social drugs” that is? Its because there is less and less human contact. In an office, shop, factory you are close to others, communicating, touching, giving and receiving ideas, getting corrected when things go wrong, getting praised when things go right. Working in isolation does not enhance your life, your work, your mental health.

Sitting around in pyjamas all day, drinking coffee and eating biscuits is NOT a way of life that should be adopted by anyone. You need to get out there and literally speak to others face to face.

We already have a problem with youngsters who can’t look others in the eye when they speak because their preferred way of communicating is by text, tik tok, email. To actually be in close proximity to another being that is breathing, speaking, touching is almost alien to them. Remember this is the next generation who will be paying into your pension, and if they can’t get out there and be part of society, then we’re all doomed!

Most, if not all private companies do not want their staff to be working from home. They understand that staff need to be accessible at all times, not at the other end of a phone or Zoom call. We as humans need to read body language, which being remote we cannot do. This is all part of being successful in business.

Unfortunately our local government offices and central government don’t understand the concept of actually working for their salaries, which I will stress is out of your taxes. They’ve got at least a third of staff working from home. We all know how local government offices work, they do as little as they think they can get away with. I’ve seen it happen. The concept of a days work for a days pay is alien to them. But at the same time, local government don’t always pay the best salaries, so in effect they get monkeys when they pay peanuts. I’m beginning to believe that’s also happening in central government. Only they get a lot more in the way of salaries and bonuses and still they are bloody useless.

So for the sake of our country, your mental health and society as a whole not being wiped out, get off your arses, get back into the office and start working as we are supposed to, together.
